General Information

European Group for Atomic Systems
(in former times Atomic Spectroscopy)

Program

The scientific program will cover a number of different topics of current interest in the physics of atomic systems, including atoms and molecules in the gas phase or embedded in larger structures, their structural and dynamical properties, and their interaction with light and other particles. Participants are invited to submit papers on all these topics, as well as on the development of instrumentation. The conference is especially open to young scientists. Twelve invited lectures and ten progress reports are planned, and will be given by experts from several European countries. The tutorial aspect of the invited lectures will be emphasized. A mini-symposium on attosecond physics will be held within the conference program.

Location

The Conference will be held in the Physics building of TU Graz (Graz University of Technology), which is close to the city centre. Graz, the capital of the federal state of Styria, is located on the banks of the river Mur, in the Southeast of Austria. The clock tower dominates the city landscape from the top of the Schlossberg, and has become the symbol of the city. At the foot of the mountain lies the famous Old Town, the largest residential Old Town of central Europe; it boasts a wonderful array of historical buildings from Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods. There one finds a world-famous armoury, museums, an opera house, concert halls, a summer theatre, cellar theatres, a casino, and much more. In Styria the visitor will find an impressive landscape of hills covered with vineyards in the south, and of mountains covered with forests in the north, which invites to excursions and relaxation.

Usually the weather in Graz is warm in July (up to 25 or even 30 °C) and dry, but there can be thunderstorms in the afternoon. If we have bad luck, there may be a rain period with temperatures around 10 °C.
